2 Program Overview

Each subscribing residential care community (assisted living and senior living facility) receives a dedicated local phone number. That number serves two distinct, independent functions:

When a visitor calls the door line, KnockBot delivers an internal alert to the facility's staff devices through the Pushover push-notification application (see Section 9). Staff alerts are not SMS messages and involve no carrier traffic and no personal phone numbers.

The defining characteristics of these programs

The door alert function is voice-only — it never sends a text message to anyone. The announcements program sends SMS only to individuals who have personally opted in, and honors STOP instantly. KnockBot maintains no purchased or third-party lists, sends no third-party marketing, and never sends a text to a number without that individual's own documented opt-in.

3 Door Alert Line (Voice)

Inbound voice is the sole trigger channel for door alerts. The end-to-end flow:

1
A visitor dials the number posted at the facility entrance. The signage identifies the line's purpose: alerting staff that someone is at the door.
2
An automated greeting answers. The caller is asked to press 1 to confirm they are at the door and wish to alert staff. This confirmation step prevents robocalls and misdials from triggering alerts.
3
On confirmation, a staff alert is delivered via push notification to the facility's designated devices, and the greeting informs the caller that staff have been alerted and are on their way.
4
The event is logged. The caller's number, timestamp, and staff acknowledgment time are recorded and provided to the subscribing facility in its response reports.

KnockBot lines do not place outbound calls, do not use voicemail, and do not connect callers to any live person or third party. Calls are not recorded.

4 Community Announcements SMS Program (Optional Add-On)

Program status: Community Announcements is an optional add-on. It is registered as an A2P campaign and activated for a community only when that community subscribes to it. No announcement traffic is sent for communities that have not enabled the add-on.

Who receives messages: residents, family members, and staff of a subscribing community who have personally opted in (see Section 5). No one else, ever.

What is sent: occasional community announcements from the community's dedicated number, identified by the community's name — event invitations, activity reminders, weather-related closures, and schedule changes. Messages are plain text with no links. Typical frequency is a few messages per month.

What is never sent: third-party marketing or advertising, messages on behalf of anyone other than the subscribing community, purchased-list traffic, or any message to a number without its owner's documented opt-in.

One-way by design: the announcement line is not monitored for conversational replies. Inbound keywords (JOIN, STOP, HELP) are processed automatically; any other reply receives a single automated response directing the sender to the community's front desk. No conversation takes place on this line.

Campaign Classification

Use Case: Standard — community notifications and announcements to an opted-in audience

Message Flow: Individual opts in via JOIN keyword or opt-in form → receives enrollment confirmation with program name, frequency, rate disclosure, and STOP/HELP instructions → receives occasional community announcements → may opt out at any time by replying STOP.

Direction: Outbound to opted-in subscribers, plus automated keyword handling. No conversational messaging.

6 Opt-Out & Help Handling

All industry-standard keywords are honored on every KnockBot number, and one catch-all response handles everything else:

Keyword(s) Action Auto-Reply
STOP QUIT CANCEL UNSUBSCRIBE END Immediate unsubscribe. The number is suppressed and receives no further announcements. "[Community Name]: You have been unsubscribed from community announcements. No further messages will be sent. Text JOIN to re-subscribe."
HELP INFO Returns support contact information. "[Community Name] announcements via KnockBot. Support: admin@knockbot.net · knockbot.net. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out."
JOIN START Subscribes (or re-subscribes) the sender to the community's announcements. "You're subscribed to [Community Name] announcements. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel."
Any other reply Single automated response; the line is not monitored for conversation. "This line isn't monitored for replies. To reach [Community Name], please call the front desk. At the door? Call this number and staff will meet you."

STOP requests are processed immediately, and suppression is enforced at the application level in addition to carrier-level handling. Suppression records are retained indefinitely so an opt-out can never be accidentally overridden.

9 Staff Alerts (Non-SMS)

For clarity of scope: the alerts that facility staff receive are push notifications delivered through the Pushover application installed on facility-owned Android tablets. These alerts:

No facility staff member receives SMS messages as part of the door alert function. Staff may individually opt in to their community's announcements program like anyone else, but that is separate and voluntary.
